A 22-YEAR-old man was killed when a car containing six young people plunged into a drainage ditch.

Jamie Linton, from Newport, was one of six people in a Vauxhall Corsa, which crashed on a dirt track near the sea wall at Redwick near Magor, sometime between 6pm and 7pm on Friday.

The car fell upside-down into the drainage ditch, or reen, which runs along the road's edge.

Jamie was trapped in the car and although his friends managed to pull him out, he died at the scene.

The other five teens aged between 16 and 19 suffered minor injuries.

Police are treating the investigation as "very serious" and say it could be either a case of manslaughter or death by dangerous driving.

Witnesses should contact the Collision Investigation Unit on 01633 643091 or 01633 838111.

Jame- it's an honour to have known you. You were a humourous, kind and caring person. Whod have gone out of their way for anyone. All your friends looked up to you and respected you!!! I'm so pleased to have known you!! Mollyjean, I wouldn't wish this on any one, not even my worse enemy so stop being so cynical and allow people to grieve without having to read comments like yours !! Rip Jamie.. You'll be missed by all but never forgotten!!!

all id like to say its just so sad thoughts are with the family. its just that i have a 17 year old daughter and worry about her getting in car with so many youngsters. sorry to say that but i do worry whether it was there fault or not. my thoughts are with you.

Jamie.. Polite, Caring, Cheerful & nothing but a heart of gold.Haven't known you the longest.. But the whole time i have known you, has been such a great laugh. What can i say, a funny lad who definatley does not deserve all this written about him!! I have known Jamie for over 20 years and there is no need for people to write such horrid things when a young life has been taken!! There is a time and a place for such comments and this is not it!! If any of you that have wrote such horrible comments knew Jamie you would not be writing this as he was definatley one of a kind who would always put a smile on your face! Mollyjean I would be very interested in meeting you, you obviously have a lot to say I am Jamies grandmother he lived with me and his grandad and we worshipped him, he was a normal outgoing kid who loved life and saw no dangers this is true of a lot of kids today, unfortunately on Friday he was killed to put your mind at ease because it appears to be very inquisitive he was a back seat passenger he was in the middle between two girls which I am sure he loved I hope that I don't read anymore of your thoughtless comments you obviously didn't know my handsome grandson and to that I say thankgoodness, I am putting my e-mail address on this e-mail and would like very much to speak to you if you have the guts, I would like to meet you but at the moment I don't think that would be very wise. h.lynton@ntlworl.com

My thoughts go out to all of Jamie's family and friends. Everyone who knew Jamie (or Owl) knew what a special, caring person he was, and I loved being around that person! He was the first person to ask how you were; the first person to make you laugh; he was a diamond – one of a kind. I'll always remember the times I spent with him and the laughs we all had... Words cannot express the sadness I am feeling writing this message. When I heard what had happened, total shock and devastation took over. Immediately rang Dad in Portugal. I still can't believe it. We both talked, cried and spoke of our true devastation for Auntie Jo and the boys, so young, such a wonderful person and so soon after losing Uncle Brian. Jamie, was our cousin, and an absolute gentleman, so polite and so friendly. We will miss him. Cannot begin to think what you are all going through.
