AN EBBW Vale teenager is taking the first steps towards realising her dream of being a professional singer after landing a record contract.
Kirstin Major,17, signed the two album deal with independent label True Vine studios at the end of March, and her debut album, Random, which is due for release on May 1.
Miss Major, of Hughes Avenue, took up classical singing when she was ten after being encouraged by a teacher and before that, she had been involved in amateur dramatics since the age of three.
Her mother, Ceri Major, 37, said: "She fell in love with classical music."
The soprano's album will include both cover versions and original material and she lists Katherine Jenkins as a "really big influence" on her music.
After performing Charlotte Church's Brave New World and Andrea Bocelli's Time to say Goodbye at the Mardi Gras in Cardiff last year, one of the organisers put her in touch with the label, who expressed an interest in doing some work with her, before telling her they wanted to offer her a contract.
"It was great, I was really excited. I've always wanted to be a singer, it's my dream." said Miss Major "I'd like to be able to sing around Wales and go further afield."
The Ebbw Vale Comprehensive pupil is now faced with the prospect of balancing a budding music career with her studies as she is currently in the first year of her A levels at school, where she is studying music, drama and English literature.
Miss Major's album is available from May 1 at www.truevinestudios.co.uk
