Second team Usk come a cropper

ON a sunny but bitterly cold afternoon with some snow flurries that did not stick Premier Division leaders Trevethin's game with Llanfoist was postponed on application to the league.

Second placed team Usk Town lost 3-0 away at Pontypool Town who led 1-0 at half-time. Goal scorers for Pontypool Town were Karl Hooper (2) and Matthew O'Neill.

Man of the match for Pontypool Town was Richard Gallagher, man of the match for Usk Town was George Ashworth. Pontypool Town are in fourth position two behind Usk.

Third placed Pandy won 2-1 at Gilwern and District whose defence let them down after the sides were level 0-0 at half-time. Jason Osbourne scored both Pandy goals and Gary Rees scored for Gilwern and District.

Man of the match for Gilwern and District was Steve Williams with Andrew Vaughan best for Pandy who move up to third position, Gilwern dropping to seventh.

Llanarth won their local derby against Goytre 4-0 despite snow falling for most of the match. The sides were level 0-0 at half-time. Goal scorers for Llanarth were Gavin Phillips (2), Ian Thomas and Ali Maidment.

Man of the match for Llanarth was Gavin Phillips anbd Kyle Hazzard for Goytre who are a place above Llanarth in fifth position.

Current Division One leaders Fairfield United had no game on rota. Second placed Clydach Wasps used up one of their games in hand and won 2-1 at local rivals Govilon. The Wasps collected maximum points by beating Govilon 2-1. The sides were level at half-time 1-1 after Govilon went into the lead through a goal by Joshua Jones.

Lee Williams put the Wasps level before half-time and in the second half Williams scored his second goal of the match and the Clydach Wasps winner.

Man of the match for Govilon was goalkeeper Philip Davies with Ryan Price best for Clydach Wasps who, with four games in hand, now take over top position.

Govilon stay in sixth position while the win gives the Wasps 17 wins in 18 matches.

Blaenavon Blues move up to second position on goal difference following their 5-2 home win over visitors Mardy but it was Mardy that led 2-1 at half-time through goals by Matthew Lynch and James Copeland.

The prolific Vinny Evans scored another four goals for Blaenavon Blues with Liam Powell getting one from the penalty spot.

Man of the match for Blaenavon was Evans with James Edwards best for ninth-placed Mardy who also had Mark Davies sent off in the last minute of the game.

New Inn beat visitors Chrickhowell 10-2 with seven of their goals being scored in the second half after leading 3-1 at the interval.

Goal scorers for New Inn were man-of-the-match Ryan Jones with a hat-trick, Carl Brown, Matt Sullivan, Wayne Wright, Billy Day, Jeff Tozer, John Radcliffe and Paul Andrews. Crickhowell's goal scorers were Simon Wall and Nick Hammett. Mark Eacott was named as Crickhowell's man of the match. New Inn stay in 11th position two ahead of Crickhowell.

Bottom team Sebastopol won 2-0 up at the Race after leading 1-0 at half-time. Sebastopol's goals came from Alex Lewis plus an own goal by Owain Williams. Race are in 12th position two ahead of Sebastopol.

Man of the match for Race was Richard Edwards with Daniel Powell best for Sebastopol who achieved their first win since September 1, 2007. Match referee Mike Powell had an excellent game.

Tranch visited Pen-y-Pound Stadium to take on Abergavenny Thursdays and a single goal in the second half by Rhys Jones gave Tranch maximum points. Man of the match for Thursdays was Chris Lambert, man of the match for Tranch was Ricky Ball. Tranch stay in fifth position. Abergavenny Thursdays stay in eighth position.

Clydach Wasps B increased their lead at the top of Division Two to 14 points following their 8-2 win over neighbours Gilwern B. This win secures the Division Two league winners for Clydach B.

The sides were level 2-2 at half-time. Goal scorers for Clydach B were hat-tricks by Nathan Wall and Ryan Bennett and one each by Gulliford and Scott Dobbs.

Man of the match for Clydach B was Kyle Cheshire and Geraint Morris for Gilwern B who are in sixth position. Goal scorers for Gilwern B were Chris Morrell and Tim Skarretts who gave Gilwern a 2-0 lead after 15 minutes.
