Sports Village gets bus link

PEOPLE visiting Newport International Sports Village will be able to use a new bus service from the end of this month.

Newport Transport's number five service, from Queensway in the city centre to Uskmouth and Whitson, will stop at the venue from March 31.

Councillor Ron Jones, cabinet member for culture and recreation, said the new service would make the facilities at the sports village even easier to reach.

"Newport residents have some first class leisure facilties, and at NISV there is something for everyone to enjoy whether you are a budding Olympic athlete or just taking your first steps towards leading a healthier lifestyle."

Located off the Southern Distributor Road in Spytty, the site includes the Wales National Velodrome.

It also has a brand new 25 metre swimming pool, modern gym facilities, an all weather pitch, squash centre, cricket pitches, tennis centre and houses the city's athletics events.

The site also includes the home of Newport County AFC, Spytty Park.

The first buses leave the city centre at 7.30am and 9am.

The last bus will leave the city centre at 6pm and the last bus from NISV will be at 6.55pm.

Sorry Owain but another "election story"!
The service should have been provided from Day 1.

    Hmmm. That's strange!

An announcement on Newport Transport's web site says they will not be operating service 5 after 30th March!

GOM: You don't half go on about this. Every article is it? IMHO, if there is any bias in the Argus, it is anti Labour. In Local Govt, there is an official period of Purdah before elections where officers cannot engage in anything that could be conceived as favouring any political party. This doesn't start until later in April, so why get at the Argus?

I forgot to say, Newport Bus is an arms length company and the Council can not tell it where to run routes. They make their own decisions.

Sorry, Grumpy, get it right. I don't believe you can vote for Newport Transport.

What they don't say is what the service frequency is going to be... One an hour??? Does that coincide with any of the class/session times? I doubt it very much!!!

This will double the number of people on a number 5 bus from 2 to 4 if NT are lucky...
