Mechanic sees valleys story in print
 |
| STORYTELLER: Brian Jenkins with his book |
A RETIRED Pontypool mechanic, with an extremely vivid memory, has written an autobiography of his life growing up in the South Wales Valleys.
Brian Jenkins, 67, from New Inn spent three years writing Mill Road, which has now been published.
Mr Jenkins said: "I was trembling and had tears in my eyes when I saw my work in print. After so much effort, I couldn't believe it.
"I decided to write Mill Road after I read Angela's Ashes. It inspired me to write the story of my life, as there have been many events worth putting in print.
"It helped that I have a great memory - I can remember back to when I was three years old.
Mr Jenkins' memoirs include his experiences of living in a gas board cottage with no electricity or bathroom, sandwiched between a refuse tip and gasworks.
He said: "I think the book will appeal to people all over the world. It's a really interesting story.
Mr Jenkins - who is married to Dianne, 65, and has three sons and six grandchildren - would like to thank his friends and family for their support while he was writing Mill Road.
Book signings will take place on Saturday, March 29 at WH Smith, Newport at 10am and Cwmbran at 12pm.
Mill Road is also available online at amazon.co.uk
